Tomáš Mahovský

Tomáš Mahovský (* 1963), Czech

Pipes of deep tones…

Before I start to describe Tomáš Mahovský as a renowned Czech pipemaker I would like to draw near to his persona – his nickname “Basa” or “Basa333” as he is known on the Czech or German pipe discussion forums is an integral part of him because playing the bass guitar is one of his hobbies. Tomáš is a longtime member of the pipE-club Dýmka.net (which became one of the largest pipe clubs in the Czech Republic) and is a big enthusiast of bent pipes with a sharp angle and of the strongest tobacco.

As a pipemaker he belongs among the younger generation that appeared in the last decade. He succeeded to draw interest of the Czech and German pipe smokers with the shapes of his sharply angled bent pipes which the pipe smokers started to call “bass pipes”. Between his author pipes you can also find pragmatically straightforward pipes with a dominant idea of the shape. Tomáš mostly tends to make rather full and massive shapes – he does not support any delicate shape games, on the contrary he prefers a rather more rustic kind of design.

Pipe smokers surely appreciate the splendid smoking qualities of his pipes marked with a bass clef.
